How does our garden grow? With lots of helping hands! On Thursday, November 1st, our friend Bill Maynard at City of Sacramento Community Gardens came with a group of 14 eager Americorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) volunteers. They couldn’t wait to get their hands dirty…and not just in the garden either! They helped us with SO MUCH including:

-sweeping and picking up trash in our parking lot and around the block
-planting donated (thanks, Bill!) cabbage plants, radish seeds, lettuce mixes, and collard greens
-Assembling planter boxes
-Reapportioning strawberries, onion and diapers
-AND working one-on-one with our clients as personal shoppers.

Whew! What an amazing team. We’re so thankful for our partnership with Bill and his garden expertise as well as the willingness of young people to give their time serving the community.
