Building Community Through Healthy Food:
ARDEN ARCADE EXPANSION
River City Food Bank continued its commitment to healthy eating and mission to serve those experiencing hunger in Sacramento County to Arden Arcade in 2017 with the creation of The Center at St. Matthew’s.
In partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Northern CA, River City Food Bank targeted Arden Arcade as the area in which it can make an impact in reducing hunger and building community. Revitalizing this area through healthy food, safe community gatherings, human services, and a place to be proud of is our goal.
Arden Arcade is a known food desert, where hardship, unemployment and crime are the prevalent qualities of this community. What was once a thriving middle-class suburb of Sacramento now suffers from extreme poverty and food insecurity, with little access to fresh food or human services.
