Meet Our Neighbors

Meet OUr neighbors

Hunger isn’t always visible.

Sometimes you have to read between the lines to get the real story. Thank you to our brave guests and volunteers who shared their stories of compassion, strength and resiliency.

Meet Our Neighbors:

In this heartfelt video, you’ll hear powerful stories from our guests and volunteers – stories of strength, hope, and the deep impact River City Food Bank has on the lives of those we serve.

Their voices remind us why our work matters and how, together, we create a stronger, more nourished community.

Listen to Our Story from the “In the Line” Series
This week, we met Quinn—a 19-year-old who has faced the harsh realities of addiction and homelessness since age 13.

At River City Food Bank, we meet each person with compassion and dignity, offering support, nourishment, and hope wherever they are on their path.

Meet Ethel
At 75, Ethel is experiencing homelessness for the first time in her life. After moving to Sacramento to live with family, she found herself without stable housing—and without options.

Despite the challenges, she brings warmth and laughter to those around her. At River City Food Bank, Ethel has found a supportive community and nourishing food that helps her get through each day. Her hope now is to secure housing and one day support other older women facing similar struggles.

Meet Our Neighbors:

Shannon found hope at River City Food Bank’s Arden-Arcade Emergency Food distribution, where she received groceries during tough times. Overwhelmed by the care and generosity, she discovered fresh food that sustained her for the week.

Witnessing the impact of the food bank’s mission, Shannon realized the power of collective support.

Meet Our Neighbors:

Fleeing persecution in their homeland, Alex, Anna, and their daughter sought refuge in the United States but faced challenges without stable employment or documents.

Discovering River City Food Bank’s support, they found essential groceries without paperwork and now volunteer there, grateful for the assistance in their new community.
