The Board of Directors of River City Food Bank (RCFB) announced today that veteran executive director Eileen Thomas will retire in 2019. “We have been blessed with Eileen’s leadership through so many pivotal moments for this organization.

We have admired Eileen’s vision and collaborative effort over her 15 years of service. We will always be so grateful,” says Mary Hudak, Board President of the organization. Under Thomas’ direction, RCFB has grown out of necessity, now serving more than 110,000 people and distributing more than 1.8 million pounds of food annually. Headquartered in midtown Sacramento, RCFB expanded into the Arden Arcade neighborhood earlier this year. The organization has served Sacramento County for 50 years, providing healthy emergency food and other services in the fight against hunger, believing that no one should be hungry.

“It’s been a profound privilege to serve the clients, volunteers and staff of River City Food Bank for the past 15 years,” said Thomas. “I retire hoping I made a difference, or at least brought a spotlight to food insecurity in our region.” The River City Food Bank Board of Directors will be conducting a search to replace Thomas, and hopes to introduce their new executive director at the River City Food Bank’s annual fundraising event, Empty Bowls.
