Events
We believe in “Partying with a Purpose” and do so at our signature event, Empty Bowls, each year. Additionally, River City Food Bank participates in the Big Day of Giving each spring, and Giving Tuesday each fall.
Empty Bowls
Empty Bowls, River City Food Bank’s largest fundraiser of the year, is a humble, community-based affair. The hundreds that gather share soup provided by the generosity of local restaurants and served by some of our most recognized community leaders.
The event is also a reminder of the hungry among us. All participants take home a local artist’s hand crafted bowl. Each bowl represents a family, a child, a senior, a student, a person in between addresses, someone struggling with illness, or someone who feels helpless, hopeless and hungry.
Funds raised at Empty Bowls (2018 event generated more than $300,000) creates a positive effect all year long. We leverage the publicity and proceeds to provide healthy and nutritious food to more than 110,000 individuals who access River City Food Bank’s programs each year.

Big Day of Giving
Every year, the Sacramento region comes together for one BIG Day of Giving – a 24-hour online giving challenge.
In 2017, our region raised over $8 million, with River City Food Bank finishing the day with over $45,000! Thank you for joining your neighbors and friends and supporting the great nonprofits in our community.
Big Day of Giving 2018 starts at midnight on May 3rd. Join our community for a celebration of philanthropy and put your money where your heart is!
Giving Tuesday
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
Donors to River City Food bank made nearly $10,000 in gifts during Giving Tuesday 2017. We are so grateful for your support!
14th Annual NorCal AIDS Cycle
From May 10 – 13, 2018, Cyclists and Crew will be traveling 300 miles to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS service providers in the Sacramento Valley and beyond! Since its founding in 2005, NCAC has raised nearly 3 Million Dollars to support Sacramento Valley and Northern California Non-Profit Agencies.
River City Food Bank has been a proud recipient for over five years. Money received is used to fund our monthly “Fun with Cooking” nutrition classes at One Community Health.
River City Food Bank is also proud of our River City Roadies Team. Led by the intrepid and fabulous Canon David Link, the Roadies have been a leading force in the 300 mile race. We could not be prouder!

Funds raised at Empty Bowls (2017 event generated more than $250,000) creates a positive effect all year long. We leverage the publicity and proceeds to provide healthy and nutritious food to the more than 88,000 individuals who access River City Food Bank’s programs.
